800,000 Britons Own a Property Abroad

Around 800,000 Britons own a property abroad - and if you have just enjoyed a couple of weeks in the sunshine overseas, you might be thinking of joining them.

According to the Sunday Herald in an article on Sepember 18th.

The number of people considering a property purchase abroad has increased by almost 10% over the past six weeks to 23%, according to the latest research from Foreign Currency Direct, a money exchange firm. Peter Ellis, chief executive of Foreign Currency Direct, says: "It is no surprise - we have had a truly miserable summer and property abroad continues to offer attractive investment opportunities."

Prices around the world are rising by 9.6% a year, according to the latest Knight Frank Global House Price Index. Latvia still tops the charts at 61.2%. It is followed by Estonia (24.5%), Bulgaria (22.6%) and Lithuania at 21.7%.

Central and Eastern Europe have become firm favourites with foreign buyers.

Whereas ,all three countries have potential the country with the greatest long term prospect for investors is Bulgaria according to James Knight CEO of Knight International.

Knight cites the following reasons for his enthusiasm for the country as the the 250 miles of coastline on the Black Sea and that it is just being discovered by the UK Market as a great place to go on Holiday.

In the past according to Knight, Bulgaria has been difficult to travel to and expensive. Today with more and more low cost carriers electing to fly to Bulgaria the future in tourism for the country is bright.
