A foreign citizen can enter the Republic of Bulgaria on presentation of a valid regular identification document for across-border travelling, as well as a visa for entry, transiting or stay in the country, when applicable. Visas are not obtained at the checkpoint upon entering the country. Visas are not required for citizens of the following countries and they are permitted a stay of 30 days: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Japan, Israel, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Republic of Korea, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Republic of Macedonia, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Tunisia, UL and USA.
Bulgarian law also anticipates different reasons for giving
a permission for temporary stay in the country (for more than a month) - for investors who register a company in Bulgaria; for professionals; for students who are accepted in licensed universities; for retired people who are well-provided-for stay in the country,for persons who have Bulgarian relatives.
